Introduction

UniCredit Bank Hungary Zrt. was founded in 1990 under the name of Creditanstalt Rt. Its history was formed by mergers, the last of which, the merger of the financial groups UniCredito Italiano S.p.A. and HypoVereinsbank AG-Bank Austria Creditanstalt AG took place in 2005. As a result, a key banking group in Europe and a leading banking network in the Central and Eastern European market was created. Within the Group the bank in Hungary remained a wholly owned subsidiary of UniCredit Bank Austria AG, with the ultimate parent company being UniCredito Italiano S.p.A. On February 1st 2007 the bank in Hungary was successfully rebranded, as a result of which it operates under the name of UniCredit Bank Hungary Zrt.

Through its comprehensive and flexible products and services UniCredit Bank offers state of the art financial solutions for private customers as well as small, medium size enterprises and large corporates in every phase of their life-cycles. Its wide range of banking products is completed by the services of UniCredit Group’s local leasing company, UniCredit Leasing Hungary Zrt. and also of Pioneer Fund Management Ltd., and is supported with financial resources by UniCredit Jelzálogbank Zrt.

Through its expanding customer base, the continuous development of its services and the traditionally cost-efficient operation UniCredit Bank outperformed the market in profitability and in some financial indicators in 2011. Developments performed to further strengthen customer relations focus resulted in UniCredit being able to increase the number of its customers in the retail and corporate segment as well: at the end of 2011 it served almost 405 thousand customers in its network nation-wide, online or through its telephone customer service. The successful efforts made in favour of customers are also reflected by the fact that UniCredit achieved outstanding results in four categories of ”The Bank of the Year 2011” competition. It won the title of ”The Most Innovative Bank of the Year” and ”The Retail Loan Product of the Year”, and was awarded two second places for its saving and account package products. UniCredit’s Pass it On! programme won first place in the „Business to Community” category of the international European Sponsorship Association Sponsorship Award 2011 competition, proving the Bank’s commitment to local communities.
